Taylor Davis Memorial – In honor of Taylor Davis (2012)
The day got off to a great start as the Middle School Trojans, led by Coach Eddie Roberts, ran past Upson-Lee Middle School. Trojan Justin Evans won the race overall with a respectable 14:48. Evans was followed closely by Hunter Banks who finished 2nd. Hunter’s twin brother, Levi, wasn’t too far behind and finished 5th. A crew of Trojans rounded out the top ten as Cody Sosebee, Noah Patterson, Jimmy Benefield and Cayden Sloan finished 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th respectfully. Also running for the middle school Trojans were, Daniel Lambert, Peyton Thomas, Gabe Blount, Jayden Bearden, Daniel Mitchell, Ricky Brock, Thomas Goolsby, Dakota Daniel, Aleigha Harley and McKenzie Saunders.
“Coach Roberts has done an amazing job with our middle school runners. For the first time, we have twenty runners in our middle school program, and they are running extremely well.”
The Girl’s Varsity race followed the middle school race, and the Lady Trojans successfully defended their turf (4 years in a row) by running themselves into the low score of the day with a 26. Although Pike’s Abby Carroll (21:46) won the race, the Lady Trojans packed in tightly behind her. Senior Ashley Cannon ran 2nd and Sophomore Margaret Henry 3rd. Tamara Nale, Lexi Hatten and Yulia Hope secured the win for the Lady Trojans by filing in 6th, 7th and 8th. Other runners for the Lady Trojans were Kayleigh Swanson, Skylar Bedgood and Valerie Vining.
Junior’s Frank Spafford and Steve Lopez as well as Sophomore Canon Templeton highlighted for the boy’s team as they were bested by Upson-Lee and Pike County. Spafford, 19:08, finished first in front of two Upson runners. Junior Steve Lopez crossed the finish line in 4th place and Canon Templeton in 13th. Adam Basso followed in 17th place while Caleb Thompson (20th), Wyatt Harris (21st), John Griner (23rd), Dawson Davis (24) and Chase Thompson (25th) ran close for the Trojans. Connor Burdette, AJ Phillips, Abel Manley and Ben Hofer also ran for the Trojans.
“Our runners are continuing to get better each week. It is promising to see runners run in packs and compete. While we are young, it is exciting to watch these kids grow and get better each week.”
Former Lady Trojans, Sydney Tenney and Juliette Henry ran their first college races this past week as well. Juliette Henry ran a 15:48 in the 2 mile Mountaintop Invitational for Covenant College as they topped Division III Maryville. Sydney Tenney, Columbus State, finished 7th overall (21:19) as the Cougars won the GSW Cross Country race.
“I cannot be more proud of these two girls as they continue to achieve success in running. Their hard word and dedication to the sport will continue to shine throughout their collegiate careers.”
Middle and High School Trojans will be back in action on September 15th at Stratford Academy in Macon. The first race starts a 4:30 pm.”
